UN: World Leaders Should Spotlight Global Crises

In a recent statement, Human Rights Watch has called on world leaders attending the United Nations General Assembly to focus their attention and urge accountability for global human rights crises. With more than 140 leaders expected to attend the annual General Debate in New York City from September 19 to 26, 2023, it is crucial for government leaders to discuss and address pressing global issues such as feeding the hungry, climate change, and health crises. Additionally, specific attention should be given to ongoing conflicts and abuses in Ukraine, Sudan, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Xinjiang, as well as neglected crises in Haiti, Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Chagos archipelago.

The UN General Debate provides a platform for world leaders to generate discussion on the most urgent human rights issues.
